Govt, army helped in OBL killing: Defence Minister

Denfence minister said that government and Army played a huge role in killing of Osama bin Laden.

In an interview with BBC Urdu which came on the occasion of first death anniversary of Osama bin Laden, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar said slain Al-Qaeda chief was traced with the help of an abandoned mobile phone sim, which according to him, often remained off.

Mukhtar also disclosed that there was a commitment between the United States and Pakistan that If anything emerged in Urdu would be handed over to Islamabad while if any material found in Arabic or English would be handed to US for investigation.

The minister responded with an unclear answer when asked why Pakistan was being criticized despite its role in the killing of Osama bin Laden. “I don’t know how great leader Osama was, only time will tell, and how his action were positive for Muslim countries”.

Mukhtar further said that the material seized from OBL’s compound was in army’s custody and CDs would take some time to be decoded.

While commenting on Dr Shakeel Afridi, who helped US to trace Osama through a polio campaign in the area, Ahmad Mukhtar said Dr Afridi should have provided information to Pakistan rather than the US.
