Pakistani husband kills Indian wife three years after marriage

Karachi: Indian-born Shabnam did not know what her fate would be when he eloped with a Pakistani man, leaving her family and religion behind.

Gul met Shabnam on his visit to Ahmedabad (India) three years ago. They married and moved to Karachi city of Pakistan afterward and had two daughters.

Station House Officer Shah Latif Town Ali Hassan Sheikh told The News Tribe the killer has been arrested.

The motive behind the killing is yet to be found.

Pakistan was ranked 55 out of 86 in a list of nations violating social norms and rights concerning women. The country was ranked 94 out of 102 in the Gender Inequality Index, 2009.

The country also ranks lowest in the South Asian region in terms of GDP per capita for women.
