Pakistan Air Force VVIP Boeing 707 sold for Rs8.4 million

Pakistan Air Force Boeing 707ISLAMABAD: An audit report by the Ministry of Defence has revealed that a VVIP Boeing 707 of the Pakistan Air Force was sold for Rs8.4 million.

The sale which took place in 2008 was not in consultation with the Finance Division. The plane was sold to a private individual without an auction. Documents provided by Pakistan Air Force stated that the Boeing 707 was in good condition. Neither the book value nor the purchase price of the plane was provided for the audit.

According to Air Force officials, the case was reviewed in the Air Headquarters before the aircraft deal and it was suggested to the Lahore Air Force base that the aircraft should be auctioned.

The audit calls for the Ministry of Defence to probe the sale of the plane and hold those responsible accountable.

Contempt case: Imran Khan leaves for Supreme Court

Pakistan imaran khanISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan leaves for Supreme Court (SC) for hearing of the contempt case.

While talking with media, Khan said that his party does not want clash with the SC.

The SC is resuming hearing of Imran Khan’s contempt case today.

Yesterday, Khan submitted a detailed reply in SC in which he insisted that the word “Sharamnak” was not abusive and he did not use it for the judiciary.

Flood warning issued for Punjab and KP in next 24 hours

pakistan floodsIslamabad: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said that the widespread thunderstorm and isolated heavy rain falls are expected within next 24 hours over five divisions in upper Punjab, including Rawalpindi.

These heavy rains are likely to increase the flow of water in all rivers and canals of the region.

According to the NDMA’s website the five divisions of upper Punjab region – including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Sargodha – will receive heavy down pours.

An official communique on NDMA’s website also forecast rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan & Dera Islmail Khan divisions.

Moreover, scattered thunderstorm and rain is also expected over upper catchments of all the major rivers along with Multan, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan divisions.

Islamabad mosque bomber identified, caught on CCTV

PAKISTAN UNREST ATTACKSISLAMABAD: The suicide bomber whose attack on a mosque in Islamabad was foiled on Friday has been identified as 28-year-old Zaka Ullah, CNBC Pakistan reported.

Sources said that Zaka Ullah was resident of Chak no. 239 of tehsil bhawana in Chiniot district of Punjab.

With seven sons in a local seminary, they said the terrorist had a religious family background.

On Friday, a video footage of the bomber was obtained by CNBC Pakistan from three CCTV cameras installed inside the mosque.

A major terrorism attempt was foiled on Friday afternoon when he was gunned down, by security guards while trying to enter a mosque in Bara Kahu, a village on the northeastern outskirts of Islamabad.

He could not explode his jacket. A guard was killed in an exchange of fire with the bomber before he was shot dead. – CNBC Pakistan

I am ready for arrest if did anything illegal: Gilani

Prime Minister GilaniIslamabad: Former Pakistan prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said he is ready to get arrested if he has done anything illegal.

Gilani said there was nothing wrong in appointing Tauqir Sadiq as chairman of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra).

He added that decisions taken by him as prime minister were legal and constitutional and he was not afraid of the consequences.

According to the report, talking to reporters outside the Parliament House, Gilani said a perception was being created that he was being protected by the Punjab police.

Gilani said as prime minister he appointed not only Sadiq but several other top-ranking officials, including the chief justice, army chief, air force chief and chief of the joint staff committee.

He added that it would be unfair to regard Sadiq’s appointment illegal and other appointments legal.

According to the report, sources in NAB said that officials of the bureau were considering seeking accountability court’s help in responding to what Gilani said about his arrest.

They said that Gilani might be summoned for not cooperating with NAB in the case related to Sadiq’s controversial appointment.

During investigation, Sadiq had revealed names of several people who had played some role in his appointment, including former prime ministers Yousuf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervez Ashraf and former adviser to prime minister for petroleum Dr Asim Hussain.
