Geo ban in azad kashmirPrime Minister of Azad Kashmir Chaudhry Abdul Majeed has ordered all cable operators in the state to immediately block the broadcast of Geo Television Network for committing alleged blasphemy.

PM Majeed, belonging to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) held a press conference on Friday in which he strongly lashed and criticized the Geo Television Network for their negative activities against state institutes and now religion.

During the Press Conference he criticized GEO Television Network for their negative activities against state institutes and now religion.

Geo is facing the wrath of its own sins. Geo has hurt religious sentiments of every Muslim. The television channel has been involved in anti state activities since long. I demand government of Pakistan to immediately ban Geo in Pakistan as well,” he added while giving direct orders to all cable operators in Azad Kashmir to ban Geo in all state.

Following these orders, GEO Television network has been banned in Azad Kashmir.

The Prime Minister’s Scheme for Provision of Laptops is an attempt to enhance the scope of research and quality education in the country and increase the access to information technology.

The objective is to provide free laptops to 100 thousand brilliant students currently studying at public sector colleges and universities or are high achievers of the all Boards of Pakistan in Matriculation Examinations, Intermediate, Bachelors, Masters and MPhil, PhD as well.

The motivation and enthusiasm behind this scheme is to help students rise above problems and hurdles they face in their path to gain knowledge and excel professionally.

Eligibility criteria

Students, both male and female, registered in an HEC approved educational institution are eligible for the scheme. All masters/doctoral students and 50% under-graduate students will get the laptop.

Geographical Spread

The scheme has nationwide outreach; students registered in an HEC approved institute from across Pakistan can benefit from the scheme.

Cost per laptop

As an approximate, each laptop will be worth Rs.40,000.

Total Number

A total of 100,000 students from across Pakistan will be awarded a laptop.

Budget Allocation FY 2013-14

The scheme has an allocated budget of Rs.4.0 billion for the financial year 2013-2014.

Executing Agency

The Higher Education Commission (HEC)/Ministry of Education and Trainings will be the central executing agency for the scheme.

Terminate corrupt officials, PM Nawaz directs ministers

Pakistan PM Letter to bureaucratsISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif has ordered ministers to terminate corrupt, dishonest officials, and to ensure transparency and rule of law in their departments, 

In a letter written to the federal ministers and secretaries, PM Nawaz Sharif stated that eliminating corruption is the government’s top priority, therefore, qualified, able and well-reputed officers should be deployed on management positions.

Furthermore, the ministries should ensure transparency and do not tolerate fraudulent officials, and instructed that such office-holders should immediately be sent packing.

PM Nawaz further instructed the ministers and secretaries to strictly follow the instructions as ineligible and corrupt officials cannot deliver better governance.

PM, four CMs to discuss caretaker setup today

Prime Minister Raja Pervez AshrafISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf invited chief ministers of all four provinces to a luncheon today to discuss holding the general elections of National Assembly and provincial assemblies on a single day, SAMAA reported Saturday.

The participants will give thought to the caretaker setup as well.

According to sources, the PM Ashraf will host a luncheon in honor of all four chief ministers after the current assemblies, the federal and provincial governments complete their five-year term. The CMs have been formally given the invitation.

According to sources, Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has accepted the invitation. He will arrive in the federal capital. –SAMAA
