Punjab government announces free Metro Bus service on August 14

Metro Bus ServiceLAHORE: The Punjab Government has announced that the Metro Bus service will be free for all on Aug 14 to celebrate Independence Day, Express News reported on Monday.

Security arrangements will be made accordingly to manage the influx of passengers.

The first Metro Bus service began on February 10 and was free of charge for passengers initially.

Fares were introduced on February 14 due to the difficulty of managing long queues and overcrowding.

Punjab government unveils Rs 871 billion budget

punjab govtpunjab govtLAHORE: Provincial Finance Minister, Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman unveiled the Rs 871 billion budget for fiscal year 2013-14 on Monday. The budget seeks a ten percent increase in the salaries of government employees and recommends that the minimum wage for labuorers be raised to Rs 10,000.

Rs 290 billion have been allocated for development and the provincial government is expected to receive Rs 702 billion via the NFC award. Rs 169 billion will be received from provincial and income taxes. The provincial government has allocated Rs 210 billion for education, Rs 82 billion for health and Rs 13 billion for agriculture.

Rs 93 billion have been allocated for law and order and the police and Rs 110 billion for general administration. Social services will receive Rs 90.78 billion and Rs 20.43 billion for the energy sector.

In a handout issued on Sunday, Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister Zaeem Qadri said formal launch of the second phase of laptops’ distribution was being started from Bahawalpur on November 7, 2012.

He said that after Bahawalpur, laptop distribution ceremony would be held in Faisalabad on November 8, in Lahore on November12, in Multan on November 15 and in Rawalpindi on November 16.

Zaeem Qadri said 30,000 laptops had arrived for the second phase of the programme.

Punjab Green Tractor Scheme Balloting Draw Result

Green Tractor Scheme 2012 balloting will be done in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and Rawalpindi today in 1st October, 2012. Punjab Green Tractor Scheme is a tractor subsidy programme by the Govt. of Punjab to facilitate the farmers of Punjab.

All the farmers from all the districts of Punjab were eligible to apply for the tractors under the scheme. A subsidy of Rs200,000 would be very helpful for the poor farmers who want to use tractor to mechanize their farm operations.Green Tractor Scheme Punjab 2012 Green Tractor Scheme balloting result will be updated here as soon as we get the lists. This scheme is for the youth empowerment in Punjab.

Green Tractor Scheme for Rural Youth will help the youth of rural areas to better utilize their potential for the promotion f agriculture and also to uplift their social status.

The parters of the scheme along with Punjab Govt are Punjab Bank and the Agriculture Department of Punjab. More than 257,000 applications were received for Green Tractor Scheme.

This year only 10,000 tractors will be given to the rural youth of Punjab.

METRO BUS Launched First time in Pakistan

LAHORE – Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the provincial government is introducing a new transport culture in the shape of metro bus service through which commuters will not only get rid of uncomfortable and old traveling means but they will reach their destination on time through rapid and comfortable transport. first metro bus

Addressing the meeting held to review the progress on the project of metro bus service on Sunday, he said the work on the project of metro bus service was going on speedily. He said this project was a revolution in the public transport sector which will help transform the public transport system according to international standard.

Shahbaz Sharif said the project of metro bus service reflected the public service vision of Punjab government. He said under this vision, government resources were being utilised for improving the condition of common man and the development work on the first phase of 32 kilometer long metro bus service project from Gajumata to Shahdara was being carried out speedily. The chief minister said the bus stops of metro bus service had been designed keeping in view the needs of the passengers where level boarding would be arranged for the disabled and old age passengers for boarding in the bus. He said that the passengers would feel comfort due to facility of fan, potable water and clean toilets on these bus stops.

Terming the project of metro bus service a great cultural change in public transport system in Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif directed that the provision of facility of escalators for disabled passengers should also be considered. He said that the air-conditioned bus service in the hot weather of Punjab was not less than a blessing for citizens. He said the uncomfortable traveling means like chingchi and old buses were against the human dignity. Therefore, comfortable and rapid public transport of international standard is being introduced for commuters, he added.

Shahbaz Sharif said women, students, disabled and common man equally benefit from this facility. He said that due to the high standard of metro bus service, the people belonging to elite segment will also prefer to travel with common man in these buses as this service will be rapid, comfortable and reliable. Shahbaz Sharif directed that beautiful landscaping of flyovers be made coming in the route of metro bus service.

He said that due to use of horticulture expertise, the concrete structure will give an eye-catching look naturally. Earlier, representative of NESPAK Azhar Masood informed the meeting about various technical aspects of metro bus service.

Chairman Lahore Transport Company Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan, Vice Chairman Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmad, Head of Metro Bus Authority Sibtain Fazl-e-Haleem, Chairman Planning & Development, Provincial Secretaries, DG LDA and other officers attended the meeting.
