Supreme Court Directs PM to Write Swiss Letter

Islamabad—The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to write the letter to Swiss authorities to reopen cases against President Asif Ali Zardari without seeking advice.SC Directs PM to Write Swiss Letter

The orders were issued by a seven-member bench of the apex court that resumed hearing on the contempt case  Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf against  on Thursday.The apex court directed the Attorney General to inform Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf about their order.

The bench directed Raja Pervez Ashraf to write to the Swiss authorities and submit an implementation report by 25 july.

The court has already formally charged the Prime Minister for contempt of court. The government has so far refused to write to Swiss authorities as the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) insists the President enjoys immunity under the constitution.Zardari has repeatedly stated that writing to Swiss authorities will amount to putting the grave of his slain spouse on trial.

The apex court said in its orders that the contempt hearing would continue against the Prime Minister as he is reluctant to obey the court’s previous orders.

The judges ordered the Attorney General to keep the court informed about any progress on the orders.
