NEW ZEALAND: Breaking Shahid Afridi’s record for the fastest century in ODI history, New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson reached three figures in just 36 deliveries against the West Indies on Wednesday.
Previously, the Pakistan all-rounder took 37 balls to reach his ton while playing against Sri Lanka in 1996.
Anderson, who finished the New Zealand innings unbeaten on 131, hit 14 sixes in his whirlwind assault, the third highest number of sixes in an ODI innings.
India’s Rohit Sharma hit 16 sixes against Australia two months ago and Australia’s Shane Watson hit 15 against Bangladesh in 2011.
Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi has launched a restaurant chain under the name; “Splice” restaurants.
The first branch is opened in Q-Block Gulberg, Lahore. The launch ceremony was enlightened with many stars from the Pakistani entertainment and sporting industry.
Former cricketer Imran khan, Atif Aslam, Moammar Rana, Humayun Saeed, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Wahab Riaz, Mushtaq Ahmed, Umer Akmal, Muhammad Amir along with other well known personalities from industry who came to wish Afridi good luck with the restaurant.
Imran khan was the chief guest who inaugurated the restaurant branch in Lahore.
‘Boom Boom’ Afridi is all set to launch new branches of the restaurant across Pakistan very soon.
Karachi: Pakistan’s star cricketer and captain of Pakistan All Stars team Shahid Afridi will only lead the first match against International World XI to be played on October 20.
After an attack on Sri Lankan tem in Lahore, which closed doors of International cricket in Pakistan, the country is organising two T20 matches between Pakistan All Stars XI and International World XI. Shahid Afridi will lead the Pakistani team while the Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya will captain the International World XI. The two games would be played on October 20th and the 21st at National Stadium in Karachi.
According to sources close to the star cricketer, Afridi would not be able to lead the second match as he would be leaving for Hajj, a religious obligation on every Muslim to be performed once in a lifetime.
“He will leave for Hajj on Sunday,” they added.
Earlier talking to media at a hotel in Karachi, Afridi said that he was going through a difficult phase in his cricket career but he knows how to face the challenges.
The all-rounder further said that those who had let down Pakistani nation with their act had no right to criticize him.
Indicating towards ex-captain Salman Butt convicted in spot fixing case, Afridi said that those who were criticizing him on TV screens had ruined the career of Pakistan’s pace bowler Mohammad Amir.
KARACHI: To the utter disappointment of the whole nation, the great “Boom Boom Shahid Afridi” Friday night punched a fan in the face who was only begging him for an autograph, Geo News reported.
Reportedly, Afridi, who was coming out of the airport after arriving here from Bangladesh, flew off the handle, after cohorts thronged him for autographs.
It seemed he was not happy with this fan following and was seen almost running out of the airport with a swarm of his admirers in tow.
After repeated gestures of annoyance, which failed to deter the crowd, he swung a mighty right hand at one of the buffs knocking him out then and there, which proved he could be a “Bang Bang Boxer Afridi” as well.
Later talking to Geo News, Shahid Afridi’s brother said that Afridi lost temper when the crowd almost trampled his (Afridi’s) daughter.
He said that the reckless fans did not ever care about the three-year old girl, who could have been seriously injured in this stampede like situation.
