Karachi: Teenage girl killed after gang rape Shah Faisal Colony

gang rape Shah Faisal ColonyKARACHI: Some unknown culprits gang raped a teenage girl first and later on killed her in Shah Faisal Colony of Karachi, media reports.

According to the neighbors, four culprits jumped into a house during power break and gang raped a teenaged, 16-year old, girl Lado first and then squeezed her neck to death and fled away amid the darkness.

The local residents staged stern protest against gang rape and girl’s killing; they stormed into local police station to file a case and demand arrest of the culprits involved in the incident.

Deceased Lado was youngest amongst five brothers and sisters; she was sleeping alone in the house when culprits intruded into that and killed her after rape.

One suspected accused was captured and handed over to the police by the neighbors but he denies of committing any crime while local people are not satisfied over police action in the case.

The police have filed a case on plea of girl’s father and launched search for arresting the culprits.

Zulfiqar Cheema appointed as new IG Sindh Police

Zulfiqar Cheema IG Sindh PoKARACHI: Zulfiqar Cheema has been appointed as new Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh. Cheema will replace Shahid Nadeem Baloch.

The decision came following the special cabinet session held to deliberate on the law and order situation in Karachi.

Prior to his appointment, Cheema had been serving as the IG of the National Highway and Motorway Police.

Cheema also served as the Director General (DG) Immigration and Passport and was credited with clearing the backlog of passports within one month.

During his tenure as RPO Gujranwala, Cheema arrested several key criminals and significantly decreased the crime rate.

Meanwhile, the appointment has been criticized by the PPP with Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Memon saying it was imposed on Sindh. “Nawaz Sharif has started the politics of 1990s. We consider this as the beginning of Governor Rule in the province,” he said.

Government Ramazan Relief Package 2013

utility storesISLAMABAD, July 9 (APP): The government Tuesday unveiled Rs 2 billion Ramazan Relief Package providing subsidy on 13 essential items and selling about 1500 items on reduced rates through the Utility Stores.

Federal Minister for Industries Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi told newsmen here that under the relief package, 13 main items, including atta (flour), ghee, cooking oil, gram pluse, baisen (gram flour), rice and dates on subsidized rates during the holy month of Ramazan.

Besides the government subsidy, the Utility Stores Corpoartion (USC) will sell 1500 items of daily use at 5-10 per cent discounted prices, reducing its own profir margin for providing relief to the marginalized segments of the society, he added.

The minister said under the Ramazan package, the government would provide Rs 120 subsidy on a 20 kg flour bag, which would be available at Rs 655 at USC outlets as compared to Rs 785 in the open market.

Likewise, the price of ghee will be reduced by Rs 40 per kilogram, of cooking oil by Rs 30 per liter, gram pluse and baisen by Rs 20 per kg each and dates by Rs 40 per kg, he added.
Jatoi said rice basmati would be discounted by Rs 30 per kg, tea by Rs 130 per kg and milk by Rs 11 per kg.

He said the package would be applicable from Tuesday as the USC outlets in rural areas would remain open from 9000 hours to 1900 hours daily and in urban areas from 1000 hours to 2200 hours to facilitate the customers.

Besides existing stores, the corporation will provide essential commodities at controlled rates during Ramazan trough mobile outlets and stalls at all Friday and Sunday Bazaars,  he added.

He said arrangements had been made to maintain smooth supply of quality commodities during the holy month. He warned the officers of USC and Ministry of Industries of strict action in case complaints of adulteration, hoarding and insufficient supply.

He said a proper mechanism of check and balance had been put in place to provide daily-use items to the masses in a transparent way.

Inspection teams have been formed at zonal levels with the mandate to take swift action on any complaint while vigilance and audit teams also set up at zonal offices will inspect the USC wherehouses on daily basis and report to the head office, he added.

Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi said that a complaint cell had been set up the USC head office to redress the customers’ complaints while an operation cell at the Ministry of Industries would monitor the implementation of the Ramzan Relief Package.

The minister directed the USC officials to traet the customers politely and provide them the best possible services. He also urged the people maintain discipline while purchasing items at the USCs.

Sindh: More than 154,000 polling staff to perform election duty

Sindh More than 154,000 polling staff to perform election dutyKARACHI: More than 154,000 staff will perform election duty at 14,980 polling stations across Sindh province, Geo News reported.

As per the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) statistics, 14,980 polling stations and 46,461 voting booths have been set up, while 14,980 presiding officers, 92,922 assistant presiding officers and 46,461 polling officers are performing election duties.

At 4,215 polling stations of Karachi, 60,298 polling staff is deployed for election duty.

The total number of voters in the province is 18.9117 million and in the provincial capital Karachi this number is 7.179 million.

The voters will exercise their right of vote on May 11.
