Mamnoon Hussain elected 12th President of Pakistan

Mamnoon HussainMamnoon Hussain has been elected the President of Pakistan by securing 432 votes, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd.) Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim announced on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference here, Ibrahim said that as many as 1174 people exercised their right to vote in the presidential election. For the first time, a president was elected in a democratic manner, he said.

Justice Wajihuddin Ahmed, who was PTI’s candidate in the elections, has secured 77 electoral votes, according to the CEC.

To a question, the chief election commissioner said that no party should have boycotted the elections. But he maintained that it would make no difference to the credibility of the elections.

Army and rangers played a role in conducting free and fair elections, he said.
The CEC said that it was now a responsibilty of the elected rulers to give good goverance to the people.

PTI intra-party election schedule announced

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI) has announced a schedule for its intra-party elections across the country, starting the campaign with the polls in Islamabad.imran khan

According to PTI official website, the complete voters list has been published and any complaint shall reach the ISB office until 19th October 2012.

Nominations will be open from 22nd to 24th October and finalized nominations will be announced on 25th October. The elections will be held on 2nd November.

Addressing a news briefing in Islamabad, senior vice president of PTI said that almost 58,000 would cast their votes from Islamabad in the first phase of election.

“Voters can also cast their ballots through SMS,” Hamid Khan said.

He further said that after Islamabad, the election process would also be conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhua and Punjab adding that the party election would be completed by December 2012.
